Liberal Logic – Talking Points: I’m pro-choice

Liberals love to claim the label of the ‘Pro-Choice Party.’

Using the word ‘choice’ to refer to abortion makes them feel nice, warm, and fuzzy. It erases the guilt of supporting organized mass murder for profit from their conscience, and instead replaces it with the happy feeling of doing something good by supporting a woman’s so-called ‘right to choose.’

The only problem with this is that liberals are only the ‘party of choice’ when that choice adheres to their preconceived agendas. Specifically, liberals only support ‘choice’ when it comes to a woman’s decision to abort (read kill) an unborn child.

Choices of an unborn child

By supporting abortion, liberals ignore the myriads of choices that an unborn child could have potentially made throughout its lifetime. By one fell swoop, they extinguish that child’s ability to make any choice, ever.

They hypocritically value one choice, the choice to kill, above every one of an unborn child’s future choices. In one instant, the right to make every single one of those choices is ripped from that unborn child.

Including the choice to live.

I’m still sad to know I have an older brother or sister who was denied the chance to LIVE – something we all take for granted.

The choice to play an instrument. The choice to be black or white in chess. The choice to buy a red or blue car. The choice to drink tea or coffee every morning. The choice to go on to graduate school. The choice to major in biology or piano performance. The choice to get an iPhone or an Android, or (God forbid) a Windows Phone. The choice to go paper or plastic. The choice to use ketchup or mustard (or both). The choice to (fill in the blank).

By valuing one choice above every single one of these 10 choices, among thousands of others, that an unborn child may eventually make, liberals expose their position’s fatal hypocrisy.

Choice for life

Liberals can’t stand it when women choose life. Liberals fight strenuously against common sense limits on abortion that both women and society in general support by wide margins.

According to a 2014 Quinnipiac poll, 59% of women nationwide supported the 2013 Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (35% of women opposed the bill). Other polls showed similar support from society in general. The bill, which did not pass the Senate, banned abortions after 20 weeks, the point when a fetus can sense and react to pain.

In spite of the obvious choice of women across America, when the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act was again proposed in 2015, Hillary Clinton felt the need to stress her support for a ‘woman’s choice,’ as defined by the standard far-left narrative. The White House also released a statement opposing the bill:

“The Administration strongly opposes H.R. 36, which would unacceptably restrict women’s health and reproductive rights and is an assault on a woman’s right to choose.”

The White House (emphasis added)

Choice of whom to do business with

In a shockingly obvious display of hypocrisy, liberals demand that women be given the right to choose whether to kill an unborn child. Yet, in the same breath, those same far-left radicals adamantly refuse to give business owners the right to decide who they do business with.

They value the right to kill above the right to freely run a business. They label the one “a reproductive health choice” and the other “blatant discrimination.”

Right-to-work

Oh, yes, liberals are definitely for choice, until it comes to a choice to join a union or pay union dues.

Liberals and progressives fight to indiscriminately force all workers to pay union dues, regardless of their personal choice, by demanding forced unionization and opposing right-to-work laws (which, by the way, 71% of Americans support).

“In a civilized society it should be unthinkable to force anyone into paying dues to a union, just to get or keep a job as a public employee. In a free society, belonging to, and/or paying dues to a union should be a voluntary choice.”

When right-to-work was passed in Wisconsin, both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders came out publicly opposing the new law. Both have portrayed themselves as champions of progressive and liberal policies, and claim to be pro-choice. (Sanders / Clinton) President Obama also released a statement opposing the law.

Religious freedom

Liberals love choice. Until it comes to a business owner’s choice to refuse to pay for contraceptives because of their personal religious beliefs.

When the recent Burwell v. Hobby Lobby decision was handed down from the Supreme Court, liberals went ballistic. Including prominent progressive politicians, such as Senator Warren:

In a standard textbook case of cognitive dissonance, liberals demand ‘choice’ for women, but deny choice to business owners.

Energy choice

Liberals across the board demand immediate climate change reform.

“The United States must lead the world in tackling climate change, if we are to make certain that this planet is habitable for our children and grandchildren. We must transform our energy system away from polluting fossil fuels, and towards energy efficiency and sustainability.”

Bernie Sanders

Once again, liberals demand that women have the absolute right to make ‘reproductive health choices,’ but call for severe restrictions on the rights of Americans to make energy choices, especially coal and other fossil fuels. Liberals demand that many energy sources that can lead to American energy independence and prosperity either be completely banned by law, or rendered impracticable by heavy taxation.

Conclusion

Although the label of the ‘Party of Choice‘ is a pretty useful and emotionally appealing title, in order to be consistent, liberals must either shed it or fundamentally revise their party platform.
